There are different methods used for the different types of guitar taught, however there are also some similarities.

Classical guitar

  • A similar method is used for both children and adults, initially
  • Reading notes and an understanding of written music is promoted
  • Classical and modern repertoire
  • Individual playing is supported using very good, custom made backing tracks

Acoustic guitar

  • Tablature, note recognition and understanding of written music is promoted
  • Different methods are used to cover all kind of finger picking and pick usage
  • A range of rock, pop, blues and jazz styles taught
  • Chord recognition and playing to apply to different techniques of accompaniment
  • Learning solo pieces and songs well known for their acoustic guitar parts
  • Rockschool acoustic guitar curriculum

Electric guitar

  • Tablature, note recognition and understanding of written music is promoted
  • Studying and practicing different techniques for the right and left hand
  • Studying specific songs for the electric guitar
  • A range of rock, pop, blues and jazz styles taught
  • Study of improvisation, harmony, analysis of songs and sight reading
  • Rockschool electric guitar curriculum

Each type of guitar lesson is adapted to the level of experience and age of the student being taught. All guitar lessons include elements of music theory according to the level and requirements of the individual student.

Requests from students as to the style and type of music they would wish to play, are considered seriously.
